RRI Roadmap

The NELs Ecosystem Innovation Approach, EIA will be empowered by RRI for setting up WEFE Nexus Innovation Ecosystems. The application of the RRI Roadmap©™ (identify needs, motivate change, engage, ideate and frame, co-design, co-construct, measure and adjust, intensify actions and adjust policies) in the NELs will enforce the RRI dimensions (public engagement, ethics, open science, science education, gender issues related to WEFE and governance through institutional change) through the use of innovative participatory approaches will provide valuable insights for needs for adjustment and recommendations. The project workflow will implement 10 steps: 1) Analyze NEL’s current situation, identify needs and stakeholders, as well as their priorities. 2) Motivate change by 3) engaging all water, agriculture and food industry and ecosystem-environment related actors in highly participatory dialogue-based workshops for building trust, whereas 4) they will frame their common WEFE Nexus future using the participatory approach. 5) The Actors co-design their common WEFE nexus vision based on the most critical and shared technical, social and economic issues and challenges among the Multi-Sectors that characterize the “as-it-should-be” Vision. In 6) NEL-actors in collaboration with the NEXUS-NESS partners will co-construct and implement the NEXUS-NESS Service (NNS). In 7), Measurable Indicators are co-designed for providing adjustments to Step 6. In 8) Intensify NEL’s activities through NEL’s further capacity building, wider involvement. In 9), results, solutions, lessons learned, and identified good practices will be distilled for intensifying the WEFE actions through 10), outreach at local and regional levels, while strong recommendations will be scaled to the PRIMA countries. A Multi Stakeholder and User Platform (MSUP) will support the EIA implementation supporting all NEL activities enabling stakeholders and any NEL participant to produce and share information and align NEL activities following the RRI Roadmap©™. The following figure depicts the NEXUS-NESS workflow that, through engagement of the stakeholders and actors, enables the NELs in becoming WEFE Nexus Innovation Ecosystems.
