Held in Rome on April 10, 2025

The final conference of the PRIMA-funded Nexus-NESS project took place on April 10, 2025, in Rome, Italy, hosted at the headquarters of the Italian Farmers Association (CIA – Agricoltori Italiani), Via Mariano Fortuny 16.

Themed “Technological and Socio-cultural Change for Achieving Sustainable and Fair Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystem Resource Management,” the event marked the conclusion of a four-year effort to advance integrated and sustainable resource governance in the Mediterranean region through the WEFE Nexus approach.

Over the course of the day, the conference brought together representatives from academia, governmental institutions, industry, and civil society, as well as project partners from Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Tunisia. Participants engaged in a rich programme of panel discussions, keynote presentations, and interactive sessions, providing space to reflect on project achievements, share results, and assess the long-term impact of Nexus-NESS.

The conference highlighted key outcomes of the project, including the development of Nexus-oriented tools and platforms, the operationalization of Living Labs across Mediterranean contexts, and the promotion of inclusive stakeholder engagement processes. Particular emphasis was placed on how technological innovation, social transformation, and transdisciplinary collaboration can jointly contribute to equitable and efficient resource management under changing climatic and socio-economic conditions.

Since its launch, Nexus-NESS has played a pioneering role in demonstrating the benefits of integrated water, energy, food, and ecosystem strategies. By adopting a territorial, multi-actor and evidence-based approach, the project has contributed to the creation of actionable knowledge and scalable solutions tailored to the realities of Mediterranean countries.

As the project reaches its conclusion, the Rome conference served both as a celebration of shared accomplishments and a launching pad for future collaborations. Discussions centered on the legacy of Nexus-NESS and on opportunities to embed its insights into policy, practice, and future research initiatives at local, national, and regional levels.

The Consortium extends its gratitude to all participants and stakeholders who contributed to the success of this final event and to the broader impact of the Nexus-NESS journey.
