On November 6-7, 2024, the NEXUS-NESS Consortium gathered at the University of Florence for a two-day meeting to advance the development of WEFE Nexus solutions, tools and the NEXUS-NESS GIS service!
Florence Consortium meeting key activities and discussions:
Day 1: November 6th, 2024
Prof. Gianni Bartoli, Director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Florence (UNIFI), and Prof. Enrica Caporali (UNIFI) welcomed project partners with an opening speech. Project Coordinator, Prof. Fernando Nardi, introduced the Consortium meeting by reviewing the objectives and agenda for the meeting, that covered training sessions and discussions on the NEXUSHARE platform, the WEFE Nexus plans, and the strategy for the final project video.
The NEXUSHARE training began with a presentation by Prof. Fernando Nardi (WARREDOC/UNISTRAPG) on the platform’s key elements and concept. After the presentation, Nexus Ecosystem Labs (NEL) Leaders and teams from Spain (Prof. Leonor Rodriguez Sinobas and Daniel Alberto Segovia Cardozo from UPM), Egypt (Prof. Mohamed Bahnassy, Basma Hassan, and Sendianah Hamdy from AU), Italy (Giacomo Vescovo and Rachele Evangelista from SSSA), and Tunisia (Houda Besser from IRA, together with Fethi Abdelli, Mongi Ben Zaied, and Afef Mahjoubi who attended the meeting remotely) engaged in hands-on training to test and refine NEXUSHARE’s functionalities with support from Margarita Fursova (WARREDOC/UNISTRAPG). Feedback from this session will guide further improvements of the platform.
In parallel sessions, teams from UNIFI, XPRO Consulting, SSSA, and POLIMI collaborated on WEFE Nexus plans, while UEO, WARREDOC/UNISTRAPG, and other partners worked on the Nexus-Ness GIS service in order to upload the initial GIS maps to NEXUSHARE.
Day 2: November 7th, 2024
The hands-on session for WEFE Nexus Plans, led by Xenia Schneider (XPRO Consulting) and Nikolas Galli (POLIMI) and designed in collaboration with UNIFI, FEEM and SSSA, allowed Tunisian, Italian, Spanish and Egyptian NEL teams to refine their plans through group work, with guidance from UNIFI, POLIMI, XPRO, and SAS. The day concluded with a feedback session to incorporate insights into the WEFE Nexus Plans and prepare for the fourth participatory NEL workshops with local stakeholders.
During this day, the Nexus-Ness GIS service was also presented by Marco Bonamente (UEO), followed by the partners’ discussion on its possible use and integration in the upcoming NEL workshops.
Andre Knüfing (DDATA) shared the proposed concept for the project’s final video, aimed at capturing NEXUS-NESS’s impact and vision.
We thank UNIFI for their hospitality and all the project partners for their active participation, insights, and commitment!
