As part of the PRIMA Program NEXUS-NESS, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) recently participated in the 2024 European Conference of the Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis (SBCA), held on September 19-20, 2024, at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw, Poland. The conference provided an important platform for the exchange of research and policy insights focused on advancing the theory and application of benefit-cost analysis, with discussions around various methodologies supporting public sector decision-making.
As part of the session on Benefit-Cost Analysis and Climate Change, Cristina El Khoury presented the working paper titled “Towards sustainable agriculture: a cost-benefit analysis of irrigation modernization in Spain”. The paper is a key output of the NEXUS-NESS Project and aims to address the interconnected challenges of water, energy, and food systems in the Duero River Basin in Spain.
Co-authored by FEEM researchers Davide Bazzana, Nicola Comincioli, Demis Legrenzi, Fernando Nardi, Sergio Vergalli, alongside collaborators from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid Leonor Rodríguez Sinobas and Daniel Alberto Segovia-Cardozo, the research examined the economic and environmental impacts of irrigation modernization as a pathway to more sustainable agriculture practices.
