Looking to ensure sustainable development for Wadi Jir (Tunisia) using the NEXUS concept, a number of 7 further workshops were programmed to be held by the Tunisian NEL. This workshop is the second one that has been carried out. It was organized by Institut des Régions Arides (IRA) and Commissariat Régional au Développement Agricole de Gabès (CRDA), in New Matmata, Tunisia on March 8th, 2023.

The main objective of this Workshop is to create awareness on the NEXUS concept. 

During this workshop, the stakeholders were exposed to NEXUS knowledge by means of:

  • Concepts; to make understand the elements of the WEFE-Nexus.
  • Examples; WEFE-Nexus implemented in Tunisia,
  • Gender dimension; presentation around the importance of gender in WEFE-Nexus
  • Active exercise ; Serious Game on the NEXUS
  • Invited expert: To enhance and join theory to practice, we invited an engineer (woman) from the CRDA of Sidi Bouzid (central Tunisia) who manages irrigated perimeters and spreading. It is a real case, which uses the participative approach for the sustainable management of the irrigated and spreading perimeters.
  • Q&A: The presentations were interactive. If there is a question, the participant can stop the presentation at any time. In addition, there was a discussion after each presentation animated by the leader in which some questions were asked to test the understanding of the participants.
  • General restitution: At the end of the workshop, the leader asked some questions to see how the knowledge can be applied in the Tunisian NEL in their opinion.
