For the project What are clouds? Ciotti took water samples from different rivers (Tiber, Ticino, Po) and used them as a thinner for painting. The use of river waters has an almost tautological value because the actual matter of water takes, in the watercolors, the form of the clouds from which some of that same water comes. The choice of subject matter has, moreover, a symbolic value reflecting on constant change; color becomes a communicative vehicle of climate and weather.
